SHIP CHANDLERIES ARE TROUBLED BY UNFAIR COMPETITION

ARK Istanbul Ship Chandlery is one of Turkey’s leading companies in the fields of cruise and in maritime affairs. Hakan Kahraman, who is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of this company that achieved many successes in its field, stated that they thought the Turkish maritime sector should be far ahead compared to its current status. Kahraman, stated that the state had to undertake promotions and conveniences in many matters and said: “The state should promote vessel construction and companies should not wait in queues for such constructions”. The latest news included in the print and visual media is the ship chandlery agreement signed between ARK Istanbul and Lucos Marin, which is one of the leading Russian maritime companies, covering 260 vessels.

ARK ISTANBUL VESSEL CONSTRUCTION  Hakan Kahraman, who is one of the authorities of the NYC – ARK Partnership that signed a contract for the construction of 4 new vessels in China and whom we consulted on the matter, stated the following: “There are 40 private shipyards in Turkey that build and maintain vessels. 4 of them are on the Black Sea and 36 of them are in Tuzla. In this year, there are 53 vessels in the workbenches of these shipyards. 33 of them are tankers, 8 are tugboats, 5 of them cargo – dry cargo vessels and 7 of them are yachts. These shipyards have become experts in the production of 5 – 15 thousand tons (dwt) chemical tankers and of yachts, the length of latter exceeding 40 meters. The largest cargo ship built in these shipyards is of 16 thousand tons. Today, the global vessel demand is mainly for 25 – 75 thousand tons vessels.  Today, vessels amounting to 170 million tons are currently being built in the 300 shipyards located in 32 countries of the world. Japan, Korea and China are the largest manufacturers of the sector”. He further stated the following: “Although we a country that is so much close to Europe, surrounded by seas from 3 sides and having such educated personnel, we have a tiny number of shipyards.”

In the statement he made the USA, the Director of NYC and ARK, Isac Karen

indicated that the Maritime Business, which is as old as the humanitarian history, have caused the formation of sub-industries in accordance with its requirements and have caused such industries to reach a global dimension apart from their national dimensions. Ship chandlery, which developed with the maritime business itself but the importance and nature of which was not understood until the previous century, is a business that requires special treatment as well as legal arrangements within the scope international law.  He said: “While the İzmir harbor is an important way port for vessels passing in transit over the Aegean and the Mediterranean, the Alexandretta (İskenderun) and Mersin harbours are important waypoints for the commercial vessels circulating around the surrounding countries. The only expectations of the maritime supply services sector, the investments of which reach millions of dollars, are legal arrangements and regulations and the sector does not have any demands for credits, aid or whatsoever. If they are required, we would be pleased to make every kind of aid and explanation.”

 «Морское дело настолько старо, насколько старо само человечество. Благодаря морскому делу создаются сопутствующие отрасли промышленности, которые со временем выходят за рамки национальных границ и становятся международными. Снабжение судов продовольствием получило свое развитие в результате развития морского дела. Однако, до прошлого века многие не осознавали насколько важным является это дело. С учетом международного права, для этого сектора требуется принятие специальных законов.
Измирский порт, является одним из крупнейших портов в Эгейском и средиземном море, через которые проходят множество судов. Также особое значение имеют и порты в Искендеруне и Мерсине, так как из сопредельных государств в эти порты заходят множество торговых судов.  Сектор снабжения судов продовольствием требует инвестиций, измеряемых миллионами долларов. От государства мы не требуем никаких кредитов или льгот и ждем только упорядочение и принятие определенных законов
